NOVEMBER 19TH-26TH: NORBERTO GONZALEZ CLAUDIO SOLIDARITY WEEK
Puerto Rican Political Prisoner Norberto Gonzalez Claudio continues to be in solitary confinement and can’t contact family and lawyers in the federal prison in Coleman, Fl.On Monday November 10th, Norberto’s attorney, Jan Susler, got a phone call from him; he said he didn’t know how long he’d be in solitary confinement.  Usually, when an inmate first enters solitary he or she is told how long they will be held.Prison staff are supposed to send Jan documents explaining why he’s been placed in solitary, but to date she has not received this information. Jan says the accusation against Norberto is a simple matter (allegedly, he raised his voice to a prison guard) and therefore it’s not justifiable “punishment” to transfer him to a higher security prison and to place him in solitary confinement, which he’s been in for the past 23 days (since October 21st).

The ProLibertad Freedom Campaign denounces this horrible mistreatment of Norberto Gonzalez Claudio!  Norberto has been exposed to new prison inmates and jailers unknown to him; he has no contact with family and barely any contact with his lawyer; and he has been SEGREGATED without any human contact, which is a form of psychological torture. We must be vigilant because this inexplicable punishment could be used against Norberto to delay his release on January 15, 2015!

The day he was transferred from FCI Coleman Low his handcuffs were so tight it made his wrists bleed.  According to a letter he sent to his wife, his wrists have hurt him for weeks.  His cell is always freezing cold and the one window in his cell has been    covered; he cannot  look outside or enjoy some relief from the constant cold.
In response to this crisis, ProLibertad has declared November 19th-26th
Norberto Gonzalez Solidarity Week.
During this week, we are asking our allies to call FCI Coleman Medium and demand that Norberto be released from solitary and returned to FCI Coleman Low.  Norberto needs us to call in the THOUSANDS!  Make a call once a day and ask your friends and family to do likewise.  Call FCI Coleman Medium at 352-689-5000352-689-5000!Sample Message:Puerto Rican Political Prisoner, Norberto Gonzalez Claudio (prison number 09864-000), has been held in solitary confinement since October 21st for no justifiable reason.  This prolonged period of confinement is a violation of his human rights and is considered a form of torture!  We demand that he be returned to the general population of
FCI Coleman Low.

The following is the English Translation of a statement issued by El Comité Apoyo Norberto González Claudio/The Norberto Gonzalez Claudio Support Committee about Norberto’s current situation:

Greetings comrades,

Comrade Norberto González Claudio was MOVED 2 weeks to a higher security prison and has been kept in solitary confinement.  They have not allowed him to talk to his family or his lawyer.  One week ago, Jan Susler began requesting information on his status and why he’s been segregated, but was denied any response. As of now, we don’t know how he is and why he was moved.

Father Roberto Morales contacted the family and reported that he was refused visitation and  was told that Norberto’s case is ” a safety issue” and that it’s a “sensitive” case.

Just a month a ago, Norberto was scheduled to be released on January 15, 2015. With only two months left, it is clear the US government is not interested in his release.

We want to warn everyone to stay tuned for what may happen with respect to Norberto. We request that you pass this information to your contacts and request that they do the same.

Thanks to everyone (as)
El Comité Apoyo Norberto González Claudio  (The Norberto Gonzalez Claudio Support Committee)

The ProLibertad Freedom Campaign will be following this situation and letting our allies know what they can do to support!

According to the release below, Norberto will be released on Thursday
January 15, 2015…

Message from Orlando and Avelino González Claudio on the imprisonment of their brother Norberto
August 18, 2014
San Juan, Puerto Rico
The Department of Justice of The United States, through the Federal Bureau of prisons and the Probation Board, want to leave the Patriot Norberto González Claudio imprisoned even after he has completed his mandatory sentence on September 7, 2014. This represents a cruel and unusual punishment in retaliation for Norberto’s protest and for maintaining an upright position before the abuses to which he is constantly subjected in prison.
Our brother was informed, in spite of the fact the Federal Bureau of prisons designates his release date as on September 7, 2014, date that the Probation Board will held a hearing on October 6, 2014 to determine his release date, which, according to them, will be on an imprecise date in 2015.
As a matter of fact we must remember that Norberto González Claudio reached a plea agreement with the federal prosecutor’s office that among other things:
· Recognized him as a political prisoner, and
· Set a sentence of 5 years, and in accordance with applicable law when the facts of the indictment occurred, he will be release after 2/3 parts of the sentence occurred.
This agreement was approved by the judge and on the basis of that agreement the sentence was issued. Under this agreement the date of release; of the double punishment of prison and exile to a Dungeon in Yankee territory; was set for September 7, 2014. This is the date it has always being shown and still shows in the web page of the Federal Bureau of prisons (to see it go to http://www.bop.gov and enter 09864-000 in the box for the number of the prisoner).
It looks like that for the Department of Justice the agreements with the Puerto Rican patriots are just wet paper, worthless. May it be that what they are looking for is to buy time to murder our brother Norberto and then assembled it as a suicide scene (as they did fellow Patriot and martyr Angel Rodríguez Cristóbal)? Norberto has been victimized by the Federal Bureau of prisons since incarcerated. A year after being in their custody Norberto found a lesion on his leg. After waiting for months to finally be seen by a medical Dr. Norberto was diagnosed with skin cancer but never informed of a second cancerous lesion found by the Dr. during the examination and for which he has never been treated.
We understand that the life and freedom of our dear brother and colleague, Norberto González Claudio, will be in danger while he is under the custody of the United States Department of Justice. We demand that the Plea Agreements be dully honored and that our brother, Norberto González Claudio, be released as agreed.
We call on all people of good faith and will to protest this one more chapter of the abuses to which the fighters for independence and national liberation of our homeland are subjected.
And letters of support can be sent to:
Norberto Gonzalez Claudio
